I am a contractor, and I generate quite a bit of wood scrap. Some of it is new, unfinished stuff, and some is painted or finished. I had been giving it to my sister, but she’s had a change of circumstance and doesn’t want it anymore, so I am looking for an outlet. I try to make the best use of all material, so I am reluctant to throw any wood in a dumpster. Most of it is not high quality firewood, but it will burn just fine, and in a hot woodstove, creosote and other pollutants should be minimal. I built bins for transporting the stuff that are designed to tip into the bed of a pickup truck pretty easily. You can easily get 2 bins side by side in a normal short box. There are two types of crate, “stick bins” and “block bins”. Sticks are mostly 18”, but sometimes I work in some shorter ones down to 10 or 12”. Block bins contain all the little cut offs. Both make great fires - the blocks are awesome for fast heat and coals! What I’d like is to establish a relationship with someone who could come pick up bins when they are full, and bring back the empty bins to be refilled. If you can use this free fuel in a shop or greenhouse or barn, please reach out. I have 2 full stick bins and on full block bin right now. I could probably fill a couple more quickly if someone wanted a lot of wood at once, or for multiple users.
