We are seeking a mechanically inclined, hands-on individual to assist with diagnosing and repairing small and medium-sized equipment used in our ecological restoration and vegetation management operations.
This position will focus primarily on getting equipment ready for the spring field season. It is a temporary spring position, but may turn into a full-time role with benefits if it is a good fit. This role reports directly to our Shop Manager.
You do not need to know how to complete every repair. We are looking for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and the initiative to research solutions using manuals, YouTube, online forums, local ag implement dealers, and other mechanics when needed. We provide tools and a heated workspace.
Responsibilities:
Equipment Repair & Diagnostics:
Diagnose and repair commercial lawn mowers
Work on diesel mowing units (ex: Toro 4000-D or similar)
Service compact and mid-sized tractors
Perform small engine repair and maintenance
Troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical issues
Replace belts, bearings, spindles, fuel system components, and other wear parts
Seasonal Equipment Readiness:
Complete spring inspections and preventative maintenance
Prepare equipment for field deployment
Assist with troubleshooting in-season breakdowns as needed
Shop Support:
Work closely with Shop Manager on parts ordering
Maintain organized workspace
Document repairs and service history
Coordinate with local implement dealers or specialty mechanics when needed
Qualifications:
• Strong mechanical inclination and troubleshooting ability
• Comfortable working independently
• Ability to research and learn repairs using online and manual resources
• Basic understanding of gas and diesel engines
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly
• Valid driver’s license
Preferred but not required:
• Experience working on commercial mowers (Toro, Scag, Exmark, etc.)
• Diesel engine experience
• Hydraulic systems experience
• Tractor and ag equipment familiarity
• Welding or fabrication skills
Hours:
• 30–40 hours/week during spring equipment push
• Flexible scheduling within standard business hours
• Occasional overtime possible depending on workload
Work Environment:
• Heated shop space provided
• Tools and equipment provided
• Support from Shop Manager and Operations Team
• Independent but collaborative environment (you will work on your own most days)
Compensation:
• $25–$30/hour based on experience
• Potential pathway to permanent position with benefits package
