R.G. Huston Company is seeking a skilled Small Engine Mechanic (full-time or part-time) to join our team in Cottage Grove, WI (just east of Madison).
As a family-owned construction and heavy earthwork company with roots dating back to the 1950s, we maintain a fleet of equipment essential to our operations. We're looking for a reliable, hands-on mechanic to handle repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our small engine-powered tools and machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
• Diagnose, repair, and service a wide variety of small engines and related equipment, including:
o Various types of small engines
o UTVs and ATVs
o All types of lawn mowers
o Landscape equipment
o Chain saws
o Chop saws
o Plate compactors and jumping jack compactors
o All types of pumps
• Perform routine maintenance, tune-ups, and preventive repairs to keep equipment in top working condition.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
• Work proactively to identify issues before they cause downtime.
• Collaborate with operations teams to ensure equipment availability for projects.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a small engine mechanic or similar role (experience with outdoor power equipment, landscape tools, or construction fleet maintenance preferred).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to cleanliness and organization.
• Valid driver's license (CDL a plus, but not required).
