NORC AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO:

NORC at the University of Chicago is an objective, non-partisan research institution that delivers reliable data and rigorous analysis to guide critical programmatic, business, and policy decisions. Since 1941, our teams have conducted groundbreaking studies, created and applied innovative methods and tools, and advanced principles of scientific integrity and collaboration. Today, government, corporate, and nonprofit clients around the world partner with us to transform increasingly complex information into useful knowledge.

IDEAL CANDIDATES:

Are you a self-motivated, people person looking to make meaningful contributions through work that impacts the nation? NORC’s field interviewer opportunity offers a flexible role where you will engage with all types of people in the area to collect data and information about people’s experiences as Medicare beneficiaries. Our field interviewers pay close attention to details, making sure all data is appropriately recorded so our researchers can use the information you collect to learn more about how our world works. Own your workload with a great amount of autonomy, while still being a team player sharing accurate and thorough data reports with colleagues in a timely fashion.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

•Play a role in gathering the data that sheds light on the Medicare population. Primary goals of the project are to provide information on the Medicare beneficiary population that is not available in CMS administrative data and that is uniquely suited to evaluate or report on key outcomes and characteristics, determine expenditures and sources of payment for all services used by Medicare beneficiaries, ascertain all types of health insurance coverage among Medicare beneficiaries and relate this coverage to payment for specific services, and track changes in key beneficiary metrics over time.
•Attend NORC’s paid training to ensure you have the tools you need to be a successful field interviewer. In-person trainings will take place in the Chicago area in mid to late June. We’ll pay to get you to the trainings!
•Make initial contact and gain cooperation with respondents in a productive and positive manner, documenting the information and activity in NORC’s system in a consistent and professional manner.
•This position requires adherence to strict rules regarding participant confidentiality, comfort with sensitive subject matter, reliability, and willingness to travel locally.
•Report back to field managers regularly with thorough and detailed data (note: NORC will outline data quality expectations in training).
•Each interviewer is expected to meet or exceed data quality targets
•Timing and Hours ◦Work is part-time and temporary, usually 20-25 hours per week, with short periods of up to 40 hours per week
◦Most interviews take place on weekdays beginning early morning through early evening. However interviewers also need to be available to work evenings and weekends.
◦The data collection starts in June 2019. The data collection period is open ended. A new wave of data collection launches every four months as the prior wave comes to a close. Some weeks are busier than others, however, interviewers can expect to have work on MCBS for as long as the project stays in the field and they meet all efficiency, response rates, and quality standards.
◦Actual hours worked will vary during the assignment
