I bought this 15 years ago. I used it a lot on my last record. I’m just selling some stuff right now. The guitar had three chips in the body and those were filled in with black coloring, sanding down, and leveled - but you can still see where they were. It’s in incredible condition for being 40 years old. This is one of the rarer maple neck guitars. It’s signed by Leo in the neck pocket, which is very rare given that Leo didn’t like signing anything.
The story about the Broadcaster guitars is fascinating. Essentially, Leo started G&L and to help market the new venture, they named it the Broadcaster to hopefully get sued by Gretsch, which is what happened when Leo started Fender (and then the broadcaster became the Telecaster). But Gretsch never sued him, and then Leo changed the name to ASAT.
A total of 869 G&L Broadcasters were produced. These were offered with either a maple or an ebony fingerboard, not rosewood. The breakdown of production numbers by fingerboard material is:
Maple fingerboard: 308 units
Ebony fingerboard: 561 units
I have the original hardshell case as well. Here is your chance to own a piece of history.
