This handsome, richly textured wheel-thrown decorative serving platter was created in 1991 by professional potter Lenore Vanderkooi of Nashville.
A wonderful study in earth tones, the platter is 14 1/2 inches wide, excluding its 8-inch--long bamboo handles. Depth is 1.4 inches. Running through a sturdy channel encircling its back is a very strong heavy wire holder for wall display.
The platter has hung on an interior wall for 27 years. Perfect condition.
[Lenore Vanderkooi is known for wheel-thrown stoneware functional and decorative wares which are high fired in a reduction atmosphere. In the greenware stage, Vanderkooi occasional refines the surface by faceting or using wooden paddles to create surface texture. Finished works often feature earth-toned ash and matte glaze combinations. In some work, bamboo, reeds, or raffia are used to create legs, handles and other appendages for the fired vessel.]
