Stromers are the ultimate in refinement, reliability and design. The bikes are Swiss designed, manufactured in Switzerland and Germany. ST2 bikes have powerful motors and high capacity batteries, with a maximum speed of 28 mph. This version is belt driven so no oily or rusting chain and belts outlast chains, with minimal wear on sprockets. Together these features make the ultimate commuter bike, truly a car replacement.
Swiss refinement and features: Theft protection is provided by gps location and ability to lock the motor remotely. Regenerative and hydraulic disc braking allows you to slow down smoothly, with the amount of regenerative force adjustable. You can adjust the pedal and brake sensors to be be responsive and conserve battery usage. The motor tuning is also customizable including speed, torque, and agility. The head and tail lights are very bright and even allow you to lower the headlight beam for ongoing bikers. There seem to be other automatic systems to sense when going uphill for added power. There are three levels of battery draw with the highest level allowing you to accelerate to 28 mph with relatively few pedal strokes. The internal gearing allows you to quickly change gears when stopped or while pedaling. The bike has a great front suspension and rear (seat) suspension, allowing you to commute comfortable and without working up a sweat. The motor can be locked and can unlock as you approach the bike. There is a 'walk' feature that provides some power to to wheels to keep pace with walking the bike. The tires are wide and the heft of the bike makes it feel very stable even over bumps. These features make the bike fun to ride. New this model sold for $7,000.
This is my third Stromer (ST1, STX, and ST2) over 15 or more years and I still have the STX, which I plan to keep because it has a smaller frame that fits me better, otherwise I would be keeping the ST2. I bought the ST@ when I was recovering from a shoulder injury and benefited from the front suspension. I am selling the ST2 bike now because I have just retired and am no longer commuting and my shoulder has healed. The bike was well-cared for, stored either in my garage or an indoor bike cage at work. I don't like riding in the rain so the bike was rarely ridden in the rain, though the bike's electronics are known to operate flawlessly in the rain. The ST2 never needed any service and across all three Stromers, the only time one (STX) needed service was when a wire was compressed due to user error. The ST2 requires even less maintanence because of the belts don't stretch or rust like bike chains. I have adjusted the ST2's shifting cable when the cable contracts in cold weather.
The ST2 is a Class 3 speed pedelec, the highest speed (28 mph) allowable for ebikes in the US. The battery's range depends on which of the 3 battery setting is used, bike adjustments and terrain. For my commute, if operating it at top capacity, I can get 25 - 30 miles on a charge. I've never tested the range in the lowest (#1) setting but it is advertised to be 110 miles. I've always meticulously cared for the battery and haven't noticed any reduction in its capacity, but estimate perhaps 10% reduction. Of note, the 25 - 30 mile range mentioned above is at current battery capacity.
The $1800 price is firm and please only reach out if you are serious. Please send some info about your interest in the bike in the email so I know you are serious--otherwise I may not respond.
