The UW Department of Family Medicine is currently seeking participants to study the effects of meditation and exercise on the immune system. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in exploring mindful meditation or exercise to reduce stress, improve health and enhance mental well-being.

This study might be appropriate if you:

• Are between the age of 40 and 85
• Have organ confined (biopsy confirmed) recurrent prostate cancer (Clinical Stages T1c and T2a)
• Have been treated with EBRT (conventional, 3D conformal, or IMRT) two or more years prior
• Have not had any prior medical or surgical treatment for prostate cancer, other than EBRT or hormone therapy
• Meet other protocol specific inclusion criteria

The purpose of this clinical research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a study device, Sonablate® 500, which uses High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, HIFU, for the treatment of subjects who have locally recurrent prostate cancer. The high intensity focused ultrasound (sound wave energy) acts to destroy diseased tissue in the prostate. This treatment is radiation-free and has fewer side effects than other cancer treatments including hormone therapy.

The procedure is minimally invasive and is performed in an outpatient setting. You will be seen in the clinic a total of up to 10 times over 1 year, to ensure the procedure has been successful.

International and local volunteers will organize Christmas and New Year festival for extremely poor children living in the Fisher village at the Red River and for the patients of the National Pediatric Hospital in Hanoi. The volunteers will make nice gifts for the children such as light stars.
In the fisher village, in collaboration with the local volunteers and the children, the international participants will organize a big party on the bank of the Red River (theatre, dance, BBQ, etc.). In the Hospital, the volunteers will visit the children in their rooms, dressed as Santa Claus, and will hand out candies and small gifts.
Between the parties, the volunteers will cook for the children attending the Street children school, and will organize leisure activities for them after school.
The volunteers need to bring Santa Claus clothes. They will also collect second hand clothes to give to the very poor children who don’t have enough warm clothes for the winter..

We are gearing up for our placement season for the 2007-2008 students who arrive in August and need as much help as we can get to get all these kids into homes.
After celebrating our sixtieth year in international education as a non-profit organization, the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) remains highly committed to our mission: “To help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.”
Each student in our program is individually interviewed to ensure that they have the appropriate maturity level to be a successful participant in our program. We require a “C+” average to be accepted and we also require our students maintain this minimum grade average throughout their stay (allowing for a short adjustment period). Students have taken an English proficiency test to prove their ability to be academically successful while attending an American high school. Tutoring will be provided for a struggling student.
CIEE strongly believes that by volunteering their time to community service, our students will become more involved in the American way of life. Therefore, we require that they participate in a “Community Service Project” (8 hours per semester) to ensure that they reciprocate the exchange and benefits to their host family, school, and their community.
Students are between 15-18 years old, have their own medical insurance, and spending money. There is no better time than NOW to learn more about our neighbors in the world!!

To Qualify:
You must be between 50 and 85 years old AND taking a prescribed medication to treat high blood pressure

Once you qualify, the study team will:
1. Randomly assign you to a CONTROL or TEST group
2. Give you a consent form to sign
3. Give you a 20 minute survey to complete
4. Document the medications that you take regularly, obtain your pill count and your most recent blood pressure reading

If you are in the CONTROL group:
You will take your medications as you normally do for the next 90 days. At the end of the 90 days, we will ask you to complete a final survey

If you are in the TEST group:
We will provide you with a smartphone that will be personalized to “call” you to remind you to take your medication(s) for the next 90 days. At the end of the 90 days, we will ask you to return the phone and complete a final survey

The mission of VSA arts of Wisconsin is to expand the capabilities, confidence and quality of life for children and adults with disabilities by providing programs in dance, drama, creative writing, music and visual art. VSA arts of Wisconsin is a member of the international network of VSA arts, an affiliate of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

VSA arts of Wisconsin incorporated as a nonprofit in 1985. Our mission is as vital and relevant today as it was in 1985. So, too, are the guiding principles that drive our organization. We believe that:

* experiences in the arts enhance personal growth, increase educational achievement and enable career success;
* the arts are a universal and essential language that challenge people to respond to the world, to look beyond themselves, and to celebrate the diversity of human society by building bridges between people, across cultures and through generations; and
* participation in the arts by individuals with disabilities promotes acceptance and inclusion in all aspects of life.
