Angel’s Wish (AW) is an all‐volunteer animal welfare organization dedicated to reducing animal overpopulation, rehoming companion animals, and raising awareness of animal welfare issues in South Central Wisconsin. A founding member of AW once rescued a kitten from a construction site. Weak with starvation, dehydration, and a severe upper respiratory infection, neither veterinary treatment nor Lois’ love and care could save the kitten from the effects of that hot June day. Angel died that night in Lois' arms. We believe that Angel's wish would have been that no other animal be subjected to pain, suffering, abandonment or neglect. Since our founding in 2000, our volunteers have worked tirelessly to make Angel’s wish come true.
From the early years of a handful of volunteers conducting monthly pet adoptions in donated space, the group quickly grew. AW volunteers raised funds to build its Pet Adoption and Resource Center in Verona in 2005. The Center includes a clean, comfortable adoption room for pets, four visitation rooms where potential pet parents can visit with adoptable pets, a multi‐purpose room for workshops, youth classes, and meetings, educational materials, and a retail store to provide earned income for the organization.
Volunteers of all ages fill many roles within the organization. Volunteer foster families open their homes to take care of homeless pets while they wait for their lifetime home. With many unwanted litters of kittens making their way to us each spring, there is always a need for foster homes for pregnant moms, moms and nursing kittens, and orphaned kittens. Adoption Center volunteers staff the retail store, play matchmaker with people and pets, post adoptable pets to the internet, and make pets comfortable. Other volunteers help at public microchipping clinics, vaccination and testing clinics for fostered pets, workshops and tours for youth and adults, and community outreach events. Additional volunteers help with publicity, marketing, and fundraising. Many other opportunities exist as well.

The project will take
place in the midst of the Xinjing village. Xinjing village is about 90 km away
from the main city of Hainan Island, Haikou city.
It is a community with a rich culture, consisting of 90 households.
The income of the people in the Xinjing area is
basically from farming activities. They grow rice, vegetables, fruit trees,
chicken, pigs, frogs, etc. The international volunteer group will experience the
farmer's life in this rural China village as there will be farm stay activities
scheduled during the workcamp.
During the project participants will work together with other volunteers, local students and villagers of different ages. The main activities will be:
- Developing friendships among the international volunteers and the local people
(students, teachers and villagers).
- Cultural exchange and interaction sessions will be planned according to the
needs and interests of the participants. The volunteers will have the
opportunity to learn about the rich Chinese culture, history and way of life.
- Teaching the local children and students to speak English in a creative way.
Volunteers will use their own way and ideas to communicate with them. The
English teaching is seen as a means for the local people to meet friends from
other parts of the world so that their mental horizon expands.
- Helping the villagers with community service projects for the betterment of
their living environment. This will involve light construction work or some
environmental and health education projects or helping in the farms, depending
on the interest of the group.
