I'm looking for a good home for my albino corn snake. This fall I'm off to college and cannot take my snake with me. I am looking to sell all of my equipment to the same person. The equipment includes a 20 gallon long tank with locking mesh lid, 2 heat lamps with current light bulbs (one for day and a red light for night) hooked up to automated timers, a full bag of snake aspen, a digital thermometer, 2 regular thermometers, a hydrometer, a water dish, wooden log, and a roman pillar decoration, a full bottle of reptisafe, and a bottle of zoomed tank cleaner.

My snake is around 2 years old, an albino corn snake and is very friendly. I never got my snake sexed so I don't know for sure if it is a boy or a girl but you can easily get this done at a vet. It is about 2 feet long and eats frozen pinkys. I usually feed it every week and a half 2 medium pinkys or three small.

My asking price is 150. the picture of my snake is somewhat dusty because she is about to shed, so it is actually brighter in color

What a fascinating conversation! Medical care, for pets and people is of huge debate in our society. To those who can afford care, preventative measures are a blessing and to those who cannot, it is a great burden. So, what is the answer then: Do what is best for your PET.

The newer medical care focuses on preventative medicine, ie. the "nickel and diming" for every little procedure. The downfall- losing nickels and dimes. The benefit- avoiding expenisive medical procedures in old age. (Same as with humans).Thus, you have to decide what is best for your pet and your pocket book.

As per the conversation about choice of occupation, VETS know what they are getting into when the enter the program. High students loans, less pay than doctors. I am a teacher and I CHOSE to be a teacher, regardless of the low pay. And, with three degress, I have spent just as much time in the classroom as higher paid professionals. But, I DO IT FOR THE KIDS. . . not the paycheck.

I appreciate the constructive feedback from those of you who offered vets that have reasonable prices and take great care of pets. Thank you!

So here is the situation We have 2 parrots. We are moving to a new place where my husband will not be able to come right away. The Blue and Gold does not like me much and I won't be able to handle her while he's not around. We need to find a home for her where mostly men will be dealing with her. Don't get me wrong I can play with her beak she cleans my nails for me and she will shake my hand, growel and talk with me but I can't feed her, clean her cage or get her step up for me unless it's from the floor. This is not good things if I am to be the main caretaker.
She has to go to a home where the kids know not to try to pet her, put the hands in the cage, etc. My kids are 4 and 7 and they know not to touch just look.
She will come with her large cage with play area on top, her toys, perches and the large play stand on wheels, there is a pull out drawer on the cage top and bottom and on the playstand. There is a rehoming fee for her. It's reasonable. Keep in mind that the cage and the stand cost us over 1500 so you will be getting a real deal. Not to mention these birds at a pet store cost over 2000 and from a breeder 1500 and you get nothing. I think you will be pleased with the amount we tell you.
She is 3 years old..she does talk, about 10 or more words and will learn more, get along fine with other birds. She does not pluck and is clipped. Loves to hang outside with you

i agree oregon vet is the best and the cheapest. i see dr stevenson. (jim). sometimes they charge an office visit ,like if that's all your doing is like a recheck, but if you're getting a bunch of stuff and tests and medications done sometimes they won't. i agree they are the cheapest around and they don't ring you up for every little thing, ie toenail trims, also they always get you in the same day they always call you back on the phone if you have questions you may not have to take the pet in if you just have a question although of course if it's something serious of course, but if it's something you're already dealing with they may talk to you on the phone about it. also they do their own emergencies i believe. i go there from madison it's not even 15 minutes away. and they are very nice to the dogs they are also open late during the week and they do their own surgeries

Rehoming Our Sweet Dog - Updated, Please Read!

Looking for a small/medium-sized dog?

Do you have time to spend with a friend of the canine sort?

We are searching for a forever home for our Bichon Frise / Cocker Spaniel mix. 18lbs. White with a few light brown spots if you look hard. She barely sheds (more like occasional fuzz) because of her Bichon side. She is a bit timid and though she likes to play with and be around other dogs, it may take some time to get used to living with one. She would do well with a pack leader, versus being a pack leader. She turned 3 years old on 3/30 and is female and spayed and we have had her since she was 6 weeks old. She is up on shots and has had regular vet care and I can provide that information to her new family.

She is also kennel trained and used to being in her kennel when we are not home and at night. In the last 6 months we have left her loose at night (3-4 nights per week) and other than getting spooked by the cat, she just curls up and goes to sleep like she does in her kennel.
She is a great dog but is in need of a bit more attention than I can give her. She is also has "conflicts" with our cat, which I think is more our cat than all cats (the cat is pretty high strung).
Her Fixable Issue�She really needs a fenced in yard to run around. We cannot have fences in our subdivision. She can be a runner, so a fenced in yard is really essential for her. She also loves to be walked and used to using a Gentle Leader for walking.

What else... she has been through puppy class and responds well to basic verbal and some hand commands... sit, come, kennel, settle, stay. The exception being... if she gets out, I have found it hard to get her attention to come back to me... until she has gotten her exercise (which means running around until she wears herself out :)

She comes with food, toys, and other accesories (food, leash, etc.)

UPDATE: Gypsy met a family today. She is a bit timid, and though she liked to run with the dog that lived there, she got a little snippy (and growled) at the family's young son and also at the Dad when he was petting her. I think that this would stop once she got to know a family but I don't know that I want to take a chance with small children. She has never bit anyone before but if she is nervous or something she could. My plan would be to set up a time to meet or for a potential family to dog-sit for a few days and see how it goes. I would also like to check a reference before that time.

I have been going to the Oregon Vet Clinic on Park St. for almost 20 years. I have three dogs and foster dogs so we are there often. They have the lowest prices and do a wonderful job. I noticed one posting said they don't charge for an office visit but I am always charged an office visit so I'm not sure about that statement. I am offering my services for overnight care, in my home, to animals that are dog, cat and child friendly. I charge a rate of $25 per day which will include daily one mile walks (at the very least, longer if the dog needs it), treats, couches/beds to sleep on and enough attention to make any animal happy! Your dog would also share my home with my 13 year old daughter (who will also spoil your dog shamelessly), 9 year old Golden Retriever and 7 year old Wheaton Terrier (both males and neutered). They will also have unlimited access to my large fenced in yard. My boys have been going to �doggy daycare� since they were 12 weeks old, so are well socialized.

I am offering my services for daily care, at your home (animals of any kind) if you live in the DeForest or Windsor area. Prices vary ($10-$25) depending on the number of visits, times and duties that are requested (At home visits also can include house checks, mail retrieval, plant watering, etc.)

How about that dreaded job of EXERCISING your dog? I know what its like to get home after a long day and have your dog look at you with those pleading eyes, begging for a walk! I also know what its like to just wish someone else would do it so you could rest! I will come to your home and exercise your dog(s) for you!!! Here are the services I provide for exercising:

8 week old kittens being fostered through Dane County Friends of Ferals. Three are black and white, one looks like a Maine Coon. All four are from the same litter, rescued from a horse stall. Momma cat has been sterilized and returned to her rural home, but the kittens all need a loving home to be adopted into. All four have been very tolerant of my son and even my 3 yr. old niece and nephew who hold them in that awkward preschooler way. Sometimes I think they like the kids better than me! They appear not to be electrical cord chewers or counter jumpers. Yay!

Sweet Tart is a b&w female with a spot of black on her nose that makes her look like she sniffed a marker. She�s the smallest and shyest of the litter, but will purr when petted. She would probably do well with an older cat since she wouldn't drive them nuts. She sometimes seems like she�d like to chat, but can�t quite get any sounds out.

Tart and Tiny is a b&w female who is a bundle of kitten energy. She has a mostly white face and kind of looks like she�s wearing a hooded black cape.

Charleston Chew is a b&w male who has the more classic black mask look, with fairly longish fur. He�s your basic affectionate, playful kitten and was my sister�s favorite ☺

Rollo looks like a Maine Coon - except cuter than any pictures I found online of "true" Maine Coon kittens. He�s got long fur and big white paws. He�s the dominant one of the group and the one that Sweet Tart most likes to cuddle with.

The DVM doesn't have to give you the script to be filled at an outside pharmacy. And any script faxed to the pharmacy will be called back to the doctor for verification. There are legal restrictions concerning prescriptions.

We are very happy with the Oregon Vet. They do a great job and are very reasonable with their prices. They do not charge an office visit, they only charge for their services. They are straightforward with their prices and offer generic versions of their meds as well as the branded version. I had an eye situation with my dog where I took her elsewhere before finding them and they wanted to charge me $300+ for tests. Oregon fixed it for a little over $30 including the meds. We have recommended them to all our friends and they are all consistently happy with their services.

The best thing to do is stand up for your right as an animal owner to control costs. You DON'T HAVE to do "wellness" visits! Just take your dog or cat in whe it is sick!
And why, oh why, would you PAY $12 for a fax? ASK for the script straight up! You've paid for the exam, he has to give it it to you. If he won;t give you the script, then don't pay him! Then scan it and email it, or fax it at work or the gas station!

You need to be very straight up about what you wil pay for. I love my vets and pay my bills but they know ahead of time I am informed about my animal's health and won't give me charges that are BS.

I would find a new vet and come in and from the start tell them you only pay for necessary treatment, and that you want the right to take the prescription and shop around for the cehapest meds. Once I said that, my vet's med charges miraculously dropped.

Also, you can find every vaccnination aside from rabies your animal needs at Fleet Farm. I do my own shots for about $12 a dog total. When I go to the boarding kennel I just bring along the empty package and date I gave it, have never had a problem yet.

Good luck getting a "decent" vet if you are looking for someone who will not follow basic medical/legal requirements.

Vets MUST have a client/patient/owner relationship before they can prescribe any medication and the vet does have the LEGAL right to be compensated for sending a script to an outside pharmacy.

It's no different than taking your car in for an estimate, paying that fee and then taking your car somewhere else for the repair.

Drs Foster & Smith can only FILL scripts written by other DVMs. I can guarantee you that if both of those DVMs still practiced- you'd be paying for the exams, checkups, and tests that are needed to get the Heartgard or other meds. And they can charge less because they order in HUGE quantities (sound a little like Wal-Mart?). The drug companies are more than happy to give them a discount on supplies because of volume.

When was the last time you went to a "people" doctor and didn't get charged a lot more than what your vet charges? Don't forget to include the cost of your health insurance, copay and deductible... Many vets charge substantially less for the same types of tests that MD's run. Last bill for my daughter at the MD for a wellness check cost >$500 -counting insurance premiums paid and not counting any meds that needed to be filled. Last charge at my DVM for my dogs for a yearly wellness exam was <$200 (including yearly meds).

As far as a "fair fee"- what do you propose as "fair" when the DVM spends just as much for Vet School as an MD? When was the last time an MD charged <$400 for a hysterectomy or vasectomy? Similar procedure- different species. Just as critical that they perform it right. What's an office visit cost at the MD? Including copay, insurance discount and premiums- close to $200 when it's all added together.

Good luck- You WILL find someone out there that doesn't charge much & doesn't do preventative care.

Look for someone practicing out of their house who doesn't have much for overhead or certified staff.

They'll be glad to have you as a client.

I am so sick of getting nickeled and dimed by my vet. They are killing me with fees for "WELLNESS CHECKS" and "office visits" (ummm...what is the difference again??) every time my pet needs to be seen.

If I want to save a few dollars and order my dogs heartguard through Dr. Foster Smith, my vet swaps me with a $12 fee per dog to fax the script to them. Even though this is common practice with most vets, that procedure doesn't sit right with me.

Any recommendations for a vet that charges fair fees for their service.

Very Unique Cat in need of Loving Home

This is Max. Max is a Tabby and White neutered male cat. We have had Max since he was a kitten. Max is half-hemmingway cat. The other half is no doubt good old wisconsin feral. He is a large cat and has the features of the Hemmingways such as the 24 toes. Max is very cuddly and very smart. We call him houdini, because he is so good at getting doors and things open and escaping (he always comes right back). Max lives and gets along well with our coonhound, Sara. He also get along great with our two little kids, no matter how much hair they pull from him, or how hard they pull his tail. The only problem we have is that our one year old is alergic. So sadly, we must find Max a new home, and it must be a good one. I have had numerous cats since I was a kid, and I would have to say that Max is no doubt the best cat I could ever ask for. He is always a topic of conversation when freinds are over. If you are looking to give a cat a good life, please consider our cat Max. Kiko is an adorable 9 week old kitten. He is litter box trained and very independent, although he won't stop you from giving him attention and love. Due to our apartment pet policy, we have no choice but to rehome him. Kiko will come to you asking for food if his bowl is empty. He will also go to you with a 14lb bag of food, his food and water dishes, his toys, his shampoo, and his brush. He is my little bundle of joy and will make your heart melt. Hi! If you live in the neighborhood, you may have seen me out with my funny-looking little dog. Zoe's super-friendly with other dogs (and thus has many doggy friends) but has a bit of a barking problem when she hasn't had enough exercise. For that reason, I feel Zoe needs some time to run with other dogs in the neighborhood. We don't have a car, so trips to the dog park are few and far between. Basically, if anyone has seen us around and wants to play, get in touch! If anyone wants to offer occasional or regular trips to a dog park (or even just one trip), get in touch! Small Animal Cage - Must sell ASAP (Juneau)

I have a small animal cage for sale - I am asking exactly what I paid for it, but including a couple of extras :o)

This cage is suitable for ferrets, chinchillas, hedgehogs, large rats and other similarly sized pets. Very durable, easy to clean with a deep base to contain any bedding, has chew-proof plastic coated bars and base with 1" bar spacing.

Front door measures 10" wide by 8-1/4" long. Two side access doors measure 5-3/4" wide by 5-3/4" long. Overall cage measures 20" wide by 32" long by 30" high.

Image in this post is not of the actual cage but the closest image I could find online. The base of this cage is blue, not purple and while I am including some accessories does not come with everything pictured. I have only two of the blue shelves and none of the little ladders. However I did purchase a large bird ladder and that will be included along with an extra large igloo hide-away and water bottle (the rats I had loved the ladder and it gave them more freedom than 2-3 other ones would have in terms of space anyway).

I am asking $40 for the cage but need to sell it ASAP this week - cash talks! I am located in Juneau which is about 35 minutes from the east side of Madison but I am willing to meet in the Columbus area to exchange.

Cage is clean and shows very little signs of use or abuse. I purchsed this from another person on Craigslist about 6 months ago for exactly what I am asking for it -- $40; it retails in pet stores and online for around $95-$100 new. I had rats in it for about 3 months but re-homed them due to taking in a cat for a friend. I no longer have any use for the cage and would like to see it go to someone that needs it.

Dora is a calico colored cat that will be 2 at the end of July. We have never had any problems with her using the litter box. She is spayed and declawed in the front paws and had all of her shots as a kitten. She is well tempered and likes to cuddle :-) We moved and unfortunately cannot take her with us.
