Shaping the Next Decade of Pagan Pride
Event Details: The Madison area has watched as its Pagan Pride Day has grown year after year from a small, fledgling event into a well-established staple of Madison’s diverse culture. As we enter our second decade serving the Greater Madison community, we expand our reach into what the greater community knows about being Pagan.
Already enjoying the support of several sponsors (Circle Sanctuary, Mimosa Books and Gifts, Tiger's Eye Temple, and Madison Pagan Unity Council) , we still reach out to embrace those others who would support our mission to banish the misconceptions that people have about Paganism, and establish new, accurate ideas with the public-at-large.
Building our outreach efforts is a hallmark of the 2008 event. We have an informational booth every Saturday at the Dane County Farmers' Market, one of Madison's primary tourist attractions. Fighting Bob Fest, attended annually by over 6, 000 politically Liberal and Progressive folks will see an MAPPD booth for the first time this year.
And, as we did last year, we will be teaming up with local favorite Glass Nickel Pizza to distribute Pagan Pride Day fliers on over 6000 boxes of pizza to the local area. Top this off with the continuing support of local Progressive Talk radio station "The Mic" 92.1 FM, with its free PSAs for us and in-studio interviews leading up to MAPPD, and more people than ever will be exposed to Madison's Pagan culture for the first time.
Naturally, with all that buzz, we are making sure that the event is more than worth the fuss! With rituals ranging from Opening to Closing, including a Water-Sharing, a Children's Ritual, and more, our spiritual diversity will be on beautiful display for all.
The Children's Ritual is only the beginning for the youthful amongst us. An entire children's program is in the works this year, as well as activities for the teens among us. And don't forget the bouncy-castle!
A rich workshop schedule will once-again bring a depth of understanding and community-building that will bond Pagan and non-Pagan alike.
Our entertainment has grown into quite an event all unto itself, blending Pagan and Pagan-supportive artists into a tapestry of sound and form as each act performs and makes way for the next.
Those who come with gift-sharing in mind will be thrilled by the offerings of our vendors, from the truly precious find to the whimsical item that lights up a loved one's face.
And this year we have completely overhauled how we work with our charities, having an assigned coordinator who oversees their needs and nothing else. Please be generous to Second Harvest Foodbank, Porchlight Solutions to Homelessness, and the YWCA of Madison while attending Pagan Pride Day - the more support we show them on September 27th, the more people are affected by the good deeds of Pagans and those who support us.
No other Pagan Pride event has existed longer than Madison Area Pagan Pride Day, pushing real experiences of Pagan culture out into the greater community, and fostering acceptance and warmth for all Pagans in the hearts of those who come. Join us as we shape our second decade this year.
